First Friday Art Walk

From 6-10 PM on the first Friday of every month, local artists come together in 24 galleries in downtown Springfield to showcase their original works of art, music and live art demonstrations. You can also grab a bite to eat, explore the fashion and unique retail stores, or enjoy the nightlife.

Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

The state of Missouri has a rich sports history, and this 22,000-square-foot museum honors athletes dating back to 1951 through various memorabilia and interactive displays. Visitors also can broadcast a game or throw a touchdown pass.

The Gillioz Theatre

Following extensive renovations, this historic theatre reopened in 2006 — 80 years after its original opening. Back when it was one of Springfield's top entertainment venues, it held premieres of movies starring Ronald Reagan ("The Winning Team") and Humphrey Bogart ("Swing Your Lady"). Now it hosts Broadway shows, plays, film festivals, tours and more.

Battlefield Mall

This mall is the area's largest, boasting more than 150 specialty stores and a wide variety of restaurants such as a Japanese steakhouse, Chick-fil-A and a sushi restaurant.

Fantastic Caverns

Hop on a Jeep-drawn tram and ride through the Fantastic Caverns, taking in the natural beauties of the caves. It's the only drive-thru cave in North America. Tours last about an hour.

Dickerson Park Zoo

Go up-close with 450 animals representing 160 species. The Missouri Habitats exhibit features native species like the gray wolf and black bear. There's also a petting zoo and a set time when visitors can feed the giraffes.

Midnight Rodeo

Country bar meets night club at this 18-year-old establishment that features a revolving bar and mechanical bull. The bar also puts on dancing lessons and other events.

Founders Park
